Don’t miss the latest innovation in chamber music and contemporary dance with the Bach Aria Soloists and the Owen/Cox Dance Group on June 6 at 7:30 p.m. at White Recital Hall on the UMKC campus. This world premiere will feature world class music and contemporary dance presented by Elizabeth Suh Lane, native Kansas Citian and former member of the London Symphony Orchestra and Jennifer Owen, co-founder of the Owen/Cox Dance Group.

Creative collaborations in which a diverse group of artists approach a traditional work to gain a fresh, multifaceted perspective is inevitably an enriching experience for everyone involved.” says Suh Lane.

Elizabeth Suh Lane with Jennifer Owen (photo: Charles Stonewall)“Baroque in Motion” will be a complete visual and musical experience featuring the music of the Bach Aria Soloists and three original dance pieces choreographed by Owen and performed with the entire dance ensemble to Bach’s beautiful Sonata No. 6 for Violin and Harpsichord, Ravel’s Sonata for Violin and Cello, and Purcell’s breathtaking Dido’s Lament with Owen as solo dancer. These selections will be the highlight of the evening’s concert!

KC METROPOLIS says “The Bach Aria Soloists are one of the best-keep secrets in town, but shouldn’t be. This outstanding ensemble put together by violinist Elizabeth Suh Lane performs Baroque and other works in intimate settings with unsurpassed musicality. Many of their concerts are in private homes, but here is your chance to hear the group in a public venue.”

In 2006, Owen became a fan of the Bach Aria Soloists and was introduced to Suh Lane through an arts patron.  “I am thrilled to work with Elizabeth. Live music inspires my creativity and the high level of artistry of the Bach Aria Soloists guarantees that “Baroque in Motion” will be a great show for both music and dance lovers,” said Owen.

Rebecca Lloyd, Grammy-Award winning soprano of the Kansas City Chorale and the BAS, will sing an exciting Handel Cantata, and a rousing duet by Steffani with David Adams, marvelous tenor.  Guest cellist, Paula Kosower from Chicago, will join Elisa Bickers, guest harpsichordist, as the BAS continuo team.  See Guests and Soloists pages for more information about our artists.

About Owen/Cox Dance Group
The Owen/Cox Dance Group is an ensemble of dancers and musicians dedicated to performing collaborative new works. The group’s mission is to create new music and dance collaborations, to present high-quality contemporary dance performances with live music, and to engage as wide an audience as possible through affordable live performance, education and outreach programs.  With this mission in mind, founders Jennifer Owen and Brad Cox bring together some of Kansas City’s most talented artists, representing a variety of genres, to perform contemporary dance with live music. With diverse backgrounds ranging from the Bolshoi Ballet and the Leningrad Chamber Orchestra, to Alvin Ailey and Dave Brubeck, these dancers and musicians form a highly skilled and multi-faceted corps. The collaborative results speak for themselves: fresh and vibrant new works that are classical in form, but contemporary in expression. For more information see www.owencoxdance.org.
